Title: The Legacy of Modern Education: Implications for Latinos

After previewing the 2010 documentary Schooling the World, we will dive into analyzing what Latino student achievement has been in our modern system of education. We ask: What are the impacts, and what role do we all play in moving the educational system forward so it can be more equitable, more responsive, and more just?

Session 3

Title: Educators As Organizers: A Necessary Intersectional Identity

The identity of an educator is critical to the success of their students. Learn about the intersecting potential that exists when educators move from being neutral to having a critical purpose. We’ll examine the qualities of a good urban educator and connect it to the concepts of self and community actualization.

Title: The Power of The People

The story of Latinos in the United States includes many different struggles and triumphs throughout the history of this country and up to today. These include well-documented struggles led by well-known historical figures as well as lesser-known, but no less important, efforts led by local community leaders building the power of the people to win much-needed change.
In this fourth online session of the series, Latino activists will share how they built collective power, mobilized community, and won important changes for the people.
